The traditional workhorse of cement transportation, the handy size bulk
carrier is a slowly dying breed. The average age of selfdischarging cement
carriers is getting higher, with very few replacements in sight. Shipping
costs in general keep going up. This workshop focussed on the problems of
sea transportation of cement and the potential solutions.

Terminal Operations |

| One ton of clinker production creates almost one
ton of CO2. The use of alternative binders such as fly-ash,
slag, calcium carbonate fines and so on not only reduces the amount of
clinker in cement but also increases the performance and possibilities of
concrete made with it. This workshop provided a wealth of information on
clinker replacement materials and technologies as well as lively
discussions.
|
On June 25, 2003 a one day workshop was held in London covering a wide range
of topics that affect the global cement industry. Presentations included
raising shipping prices, the major developments in the Chinese cement
industry, the global business sustainability initiative, new cement types
with over 50% fly-ash and so on. A full overview of this workshop is
provided.
